Fuck this blog.
Actually just the posts pertaining to weddings. Since my last post I have broken off an engagement AND ended a relationship. But the purpose of this blog is not to rant about my ~~romantic~~ personal life (seeing as how I currently have no romantic life to speak of). Unless you count my undying love for fashion. Boyfriend, fiancés, husbands... they come and they go. But that perfect LBD or pair of Loubs OR, even better still, that vintage Chanel bag you've wasted countless hours obsessing over and saving what-should-have-been-rent-money for... those will last forever.
If only the last part of that statement were true.
During my engagement I did, however, come to the realization that I love jewelry. And now that I no longer wear an engagement ring everyday I have begun (obsessively compulsively) filling that void with even more jewelry than I think I've ever owned or donned.

Remember that episode of Bethenny Getting Married? where she is basically obsessing over her wedding cake because she is pregnant and hormonal and it is the one thing she really wants to enjoy at her reception? Yeah, that's pretty much where I stand as far as wedding cakes go, minus the whole pregnant and hormonal thing.
Basically, if my wedding cake doesn't end up looking like it came out of a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine or tasting like an orgasm in gâteau-and-frosting form, I'm going to be hella pissed.
I'm pretty much in love with these cake designs by Maggie Austin Cake, but they almost look too lovely to eat...
Almost. I'm too much of a fat ass to sit here and say I'd never eat a cake that was sitting right in front of me. Even if it was a work of art.

$12 bucks! Originally $35 so, not bad! Especially since I usually avoid PacSun like the plague- I'd rather not have to wash the hipster/sk8er ick off of myself every time I shop. Then again I do enjoy Urban Outfitters... *shrugs*

Met Gala 2011

I wasn't going to make any posts about the Met Gala; that's not really what this blog is about, and there are already too many blog posts on the subject. However, after perusing various blogs and sites, I had to post something about what Ashley Olsen was wearing. Holy crap, did she look gorgeous in this vintage Dior Haute Couture stunner with amazing champagne-y ivory puff sleeves. She is also shown in a Judith Leiber clutch, Louboutins, and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry. I loved her natural makeup and slightly unkempt updo.

Utility jacket + LWD

Who What Wear styling tip #2: "Transition a LWD with an army jacket."
Okay, pretty basic common knowledge. White lace dress plus army-style jacket, I got it. Now I'm good for summer.

All sarcasm aside, this is a great look. I love white for spring and summer, contrasting against bronze skin, and a lightweight utilitarian jacket is the perfect cover-up for chilly nights. WWW used Kate Bosworth's Nylon cover party ensemble as an example, and I think it looks awesome. Except for one thing... those fucking boots. I guess maybe this was okay for the specific event, but definitely not for everyday. I personally would style this look with sandals, wedges, or even classic tennis whites. Perhaps the boots wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so pointy. If you must go with boots, go for biker or combat style boots, à la Doc Martins or something. Keeps up with the utilitarian theme...

So in just over a year I'm getting married; we've settled on May 5, 2012 as our date (inadvertently planning a Cinco de Mayo wedding, which I didn't realize at first until someone said something haha). So as I'm starting to plan I've been browsing various wedding magazines and websites, including Martha Stewart Weddings. I love Martha Stewart anyway, so drawing much inspiration from hers seemed appropriate. I guess there is a budding domestic diva in me after all.

The Most Intriguing Part of The King's Speech...

...was this damn room. I am obsessed with the wall, for one thing, it's almost as if the wall is decaying. As soon as we saw this in the film, the fiancé and I knew we wanted to do this whenever we decide to buy a house. How to reproduce layers and layers of wallpaper and years of distress will be another issue altogether, but I'm sure our collective artistic minds will figure it out.

This room and its décor, at the historical 33 Portland Place, was not built for the film, and (as I'm sure most people know by now) it has been used for various other projects, including the gay porn film Snookered which was released in 2008. I'm pretty sure this is what makes me love this room even more, given my love of all things gay and pornographic.

Wouldn't it have been hysterical if The King's Speech had beat out Alice in Wonderland for art direction at this year's Academy Awards?

PS1 vs. Mossimo

Okay, so it's not secret that Proenza Schouler is my favorite designer label. Ever. And that I've been lusting over the PS1 series of handbags. If I ever get the chance to meet Lazaro and/or Jack I will seriously lick them. I am completely in love with this punchy, citrusy "maize" color, perfect for Spring and to compliment my never-ending wardrobe of neutrals. But, unfortunately, I can't stomach the price tag.

Luckily (or perhaps unluckily), Target has a new set of messenger bags out right now, and they look startlingly similar to the PS bags. This Mossimo version comes in a variety of colors, including olive and grey, and an unfortunate cognac color that emphasizes its faux-leather quality. But I do like this off-white color a lot. It won't make me feel better about the PS1, and it might actually make me feel worse, but I could probably drop $30-some bucks on this.

Alexander McQueen at The Met

On May 4 the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be unveiling its "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" exhibit to the public. I have not been to NYC in a while, and it has definitely been too long since I've been to the Met so I'm hoping I will be able to see this!

The collection will be broken up into five separate showcases, each with recurring themes; "The Savage Mind," "Romantic Gothic," "Romantic Nationalism," Romantic Exoticism," and "Romantic Primitivism." I'm so excited!

I've become quite accustomed to my often daily email updates from Net-A-Porter.com; these emails have quickly become my source for inspiration to accompany my morning coffee. So when Net-A-Porter tells me "it's time to sweeten up my look with Miu Miu" you can be damn sure I am going to listen!
Clicking on the link in the email, I'm instantly drawn to the soft blush pinks (my favorite color at the moment), the dusty blues, neutral taupes, and touches of grey; all perfect for Spring. What I love about Miu Miu is that it never fails to be lady-like, with structured satchels and suede peep-toe pumps, and adding almost-edgy details like animal prints and perforations. This season leopard print accessories continue to crop up in multiple collections, and I love that they are so versatile that they pass as a neutral.

I realized I haven't written a blog post in like 6 months and that you guys have probably forgotten about me. In the time since I've blogged last I've graduated from college with a Bachelor's in Fashion Merchandising, started excessively baking like a crazed housewife, but most importantly I've gotten engaged!

So now that I am done with school and currently unemployed/job searching, I have nothing much to do except look at bridal websites and magazines and make sure my dream wedding day becomes a reality. But I also realized how much I missed blogging after taking a long, LONG break from it.

When I left you guys last August I just wasn't feeling up to fashion blogs. I was feeling uninspired, unmotivated, and out of ideas. I haven't even looked at a fashion blog since then. But then something inside me reared its creative head and I decided to not only sit on my ass but sit on my ass and take up blogging again. I decided Deranged needed a facelift- a new design, new colors, new direction.

So for all my readers that are still subscribed to this now-non-defunct blog, thanks for staying. I promise to be a much more diligent blogger this time :)

Sorry I haven't been around much guys. It's been a busy summer with my internship (which is over now, yay!) plus preparing for my final semester (I graduate in December now, bitches, yay!) Besides, I just haven't been that inspired to blog, unfortunately. But now my favorite season is coming up: fall weather=fall clothes! Nothing inspires me more than perusing the web for fall staples and stand-outs. So, naturally, I had to polyvore it up.

1. Diane von Furstenberg "Banker" stretch wool dress; $465.00

I loved this dress as soon as I saw it in my net-a-porter email. There is something so cozy about this update on her standard wrap dress. Plus, at $465? That's a steal!

2. Bath & Body Works shower gels in "Forever Sunshine" and "Deep Aqua;" $10.50 & $5.25

Their lotions and body creams may be too strong for sensitive nose, but I love B&BW shower gels. When I first saw their new fragrance "Forever Sunshine" the cheery colors sort of scared me- usually it means "too flowery" or "too sweet" for my taste, but this one was a lovely blend of apricot, peonies, and praline? I was intrigued. And the "Deep Aqua" scent is definitely my new favorite.

3. 100% Pure moisturizing healing balm; $25.00

Winter for me always begins with autumn dry skin, ironically on my T-zone. I started using this balm in place of or in addition to my daily moisturizer, especially when my skin feels chapped and sensitive due to windy walks across campus.

4. Lanvin dress with twisted hip; $770.42

Anything draped is perfect for fall, and this is just a stand-out piece. The color is a perfect, rich brown and is so versatile it could be dressed up with killer heels, or dressed down with tights and a cardigan. Love.

5. Marc Jacobs "Stam" quilted satchel; $995.00

What's great about this version of the iconic handbag is that it is NYLON! I'm ecstatic because 1) even though I will probably never own this bag, it's substantially less expensive, and 2) I love fabric bags as opposed to leather. Being a current resident of snowy Ohio, I know how hard I can be on handbags and I feel the nylon version would be much easier to take care of.

6. AE zipper flat; $29.50

I've been lusting over exposed zippers for a couple seasons now, and these are only fueling my obsession. I love that the zipper is somewhat indistinguishable at first glance, such a lovely architectural detail. I'll have to disregard the fact that they are suede and will most surely become destroyed walking through the streets of snowy Kent, but I have a few months until then.

7. Whiskey sours

Nothing warms you up quite like whiskey. And since drinking it straight reminds me of New Years Eve 2008 I like to take it in a more diluted form. Sours are a great way to go to make a kiss-ass drink that isn't so girly. But none of that pre-made sour mix shit. Boyfriend and I make our own with lemon juice and simple syrup. We also add grenadine for a nice splash of flavor- plus it makes our drinks pink!

Edit: Sorry if this post seems so random. I've been reading the humor blog Hyperbole and a Half a lot lately and it seems to put me in a silly mood. Especially when mixed with aforementioned whiskey sours- I'm quite tipsy!

A FUCKING LEATHER TEE SHIRT?!

That is exactly what this is. And no, I couldn't believe it either, but 'tis true. Diane von Furstenberg has outdone herself with this one. I'm so excited I can't even think/type straight! It literally took me 82354031975 attempts to type this short little paragraph!

Saks describes this as "Your favorite tee look- this time in smooth leather and finely tailored with gathered sleeves and chest patch pocket." 100% Italian lamb leather, with silk/lycra lining so you don't sweat your tits off. I'm not sure how I feel about wearing leather that isn't a jacket or boots, but judging from the photos it looks supple and soft, comfortable and breathable enough to be a jersey. I'd so be willing to try this.

One day I will own a pair of shiny shiny Louboutins (I swear!) But right now I just don't have the cash to drop on a $700+ pair of shoes. No matter how shiny and delicious they are. I've always coveted a nude peep-toe or classic black pump, but in my "What's New For You" email on Monday arrived these babies. Damn you net-a-porter, damn you! *shakes fist* Now I have my heart set on these peacock blue gems. Even the color, "peacock blue," sounds ever the more inviting that just a blah black.

I do, however, have graduation coming up in December. Hence, graduation PRESENTS. I've already told my mom that (out of necessity) I need a new Macbook because this one is 5 years old and always about to crash. But a pair of Loub's is a tad cheaper than a Mac. Hmmm...

Okay, wow guys. I'm really sorry I haven't updated in over a month. So much has been going on, lots of classwork and interviews... and THEN I got an executive management internship with Kohl's! It starts in June and I still have no idea where I will be located. But it's still exciting, especially since I only have a semester left of school!

And yes, I'm aware how loosely I use that L-word, but I mean it this time. This 3.1 Philip Lim gem is everything I want out of a summer dress. Pale pink silk skirt, black tulle, hand-placed sequins in a croc-pattern. The colors are gorgeous. And when it comes to sequins and embellishments, nobody does them quite as elegantly as Philip Lim. Ugh, if only I could splurge!

Amateur Modeling at its Finest

And no, for once I'm not talking about America's Next Top "Model." I'm talking about this lovely thing over at Moxsie.com- I was cracking up and the girl's "posing," or lack thereof. I mean seriously, who okayed these photos?!

I'll break this failure down for you guys:

1. The Generic Catalog Pose: There is, quite literally, no life in this arm. There are no angles, no interest, no posing really. Last time I checked, the point of catalog modeling is not to make garments look shapeless. This does nothing to make me want to buy this dress.

2. The Over-Exaggerated Shoulder Hunch: Clearly, someone has been doing her homework and reading Vogue and W, and has equated that a hunched shoulder equals high fashion. But, when you only lift one shoulder with the rest of your body erect, you only look rather lopsided.

3. And finally, whatever the hell this is. I mean COME ON what is going on with that right arm?! Who directed this photoshoot? Who told this girl that this was a good idea?!!

However, this dress is hella cute [I will link it here]. I just get too distracted by the crazy arms and deer-in-headlights, trying-too-hard expression. She's a pretty girl, but LORD please give her some guidance in the modeling department.

I've come to the conclusion that the girl's right arm is just dead.

OBSESSING Over Proenza Schouler

Perhaps it's because I'm extremely biased, and I think Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough can do no wrong, but I am in LOVE with Proenza Schouler's Fall 2010 RTW collection. I think it is a perfect transition from their Spring 2010 collection. It still has those bright cobalt blues that I loved from Spring, only now intertwined with more muted teals and plums, ditzy florals, and cozy knits. And their awesome graffiti-printed jeans? They collaborated with J Brand, and to quote style.com- "Try keeping those on shelves."

The accessories were rather splendid as well. I'm loving these shoes with the quirky heels, and of course their bags are making me drool all over my keyboard.

I stupidly registered for 18 credits this semester. So basically if I'm not in class I'm studying, and if I'm not studying I'm working at Macy's making next to nothing. And on top of that I'm searching for summer internships (so if anybody ANYBODY has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.) And I'm sick and tired of all this snow. And how people drive in the snow.

Basically, snow and other drivers make me a homicidal maniac. So you can imagine the deadly combination that the two of these bring.

In the words of my friend and fellow Kent Stater, "Spring semester?! That's a lie!"

I hate winter. Actually, that is a bit of an understatement. Winter makes me physically ill. But, thanks to email subscriptions to various retailers and Notcouture, I can look forward to warmer months in the warmth and comfort of my own apartment.

The latest editorial offerings from Burberry reminded me of 2007's- the ones with Patrick Wolf. Which reminded me that I still had not downloaded The Bachelor. I'm not sure what my affinity to British, bisexual musicians is about, but he is slowly creeping up to the top of my favorites list.

I haven't been on blogger in so long I actually had to sign in my google account. The holidays were crazy, Macy's is driving me nuts, and classes start in 2 weeks. On the other hand I am now a proud owner of a PS3, my jeep reached 100,000 miles today, and I've been listening to Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" and Passion Pit's "Little Secrets" on repeat.

I think these images from Burberry's Spring/Summer 2010 lookbook are stellar. Emma Watson is such a perfect fit. I like her, she has nice cheekbones. She seems like she has her shit together and most importantly her acting is actually beginning to improve.

I kinda wish Burberry had found a male model that didn't look like a total douche. Or a Jonas brother, which I guess is pretty synonymous with "total douche."

I recently had to write a research paper for my Fashion & Pop Culture class- on anything in recent pop culture that we think impacts fashion in some way... So I decided to do mine on fashion bloggers and how they have influenced the fashion industry and its marketing techniques.

I found tons of information and articles, but what I really wanted was a personal perspective. So I turned to Erika of Fashion Chalet and she graciously granted me a quick e-mail interview to use, which was very helpful. I just love Fashion Chalet, it really was the blog that inspired me to start my own.

Reasons why I ♥ her:

1. She has ridiculously long hair.

2. She has impeccable style.

3. She owns the Sam Edelman booties.

4. Her food tweets make me super hungry.

5. Despite being featured in magazines like Lucky, Glamour, and on websites like Urban Outfitters and Modcloth, she continues to be flattered, humble, and incredibly sweet.

The Interview:

Me- Do you think fashion bloggers have more of an impact on the fashion and retail industry?

Erika- Yes I do. Only because I personally follow a lot of Inspirational Photo blogs.. (Knightcat, Little Plastic Horses, Stardust and Sequins & Fashion-Canvas) whose personal style easily flow out through their posts and I am seeing more and more stores sprouting out these same basic ideas of a new fashion "language" into their everyday clothing and accessory items. A very cool notion indeed!

Me- You've been featured in magazines like Lucky, Glamour, etc. How did/do you feel when you find out a huge magazine has mentioned you as a style influence?

Erika- Incredibly flattered. To think that only a handful of years ago I was longingly looking through the pages of these magazines, getting inspired and falling in love-- not knowing one day they might feature something about me within their pages or blog.

Me- You recently teamed up with Coach for a giveaway on your blog- who contacted who or how did the giveaway come about?

Erika- I was contacted by them. Karen Robinovitz (who is behind the ingenious glosses Skinny Hips, Big Lips for Purple Lab) is working with them and suggested me to the Coach team :)

Me- Have you been invited to any promotional events for a retailer/fashion show/etc?

Erika- I was recently invited to New York City for a VIP shopping experience by TJ Maxx/Marshalls. I got to tour the city for the first time, stay in a hotel mid-Manhattan and eat in 2 days as much as I normally would in a week. I was treated very nicely, and I hope I treated the City back just as nicely. New York, I love you! ;)

Me- Since I really don't have anymore specific questions, is there anything else you'd like to add about fashion bloggers, blogging, the fashion industry, etc?

Erika- I find that blogging is not only this great pool of inspiration to pull from, but also a very positive "secret world" to retreat to and learn and grow from as well.

Chanel Pre-Fall 2010

Pre-Fall is my favorite season (or, rather, non-season) and I think it's because most designers come up with the most gorgeous layers, luxurious fabrics, richest colors. But doesn't it feel a bit early, Karl, to release your Pre-Fall collection for 2010 already? Seeing as though we aren't even into 2010 yet?

No matter, the collection is gorgeous. Titled "Paris Shanghai, A Fantasy," it tells Karl's own imagined story of Coco Chanel's trip to China. The signature tweeds are here, but with a bit of a twist. I love the obvious Asian influences, and the colors. I was so ready for spring and summer, but now I want fall all over again.

My outfit for Thanksgiving. Please excuse the shoddy photos, and the treadmill in the background hah! I found it more appropriate to wear a dress instead of pants because since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I knew I'd be engorging myself with massive amounts of food.

Also, this dress DEFINITELY does not fit me anymore (in the boob area, damn you BC pills) and I've only worn it a few times. So if anyone is interested in it, I will probably be putting it up for sale in the shop, it has a cute sash as well.

I'm hoping to be blogging a bit more now that classes are winding down, instead of only making 5 posts a month =/

So, when I accepted the job at Macy's womens' shoe department a few weeks ago, I thought I'd be just fine as to not blow my entire paycheck on shoes. You see, handbags are my weakness, not shoes like a lot of women. HOWEVER, we just got a shipment of these lovelies a few days ago, and I've been trying to justify why I would need them in my life- they are super comfortable; they could be worn in the warmer months with skirts and cut-offs or in the chillier months with textured tights; they are casual yet could be dressed up easily, etc. etc.

See? How could I not pass these babies up?? It would be ridiculous NOT to =P

I have never felt the urge to wear a faux fur coat. Until this year. And now I want one with a vengeance. I have no idea what has come over me, maybe all of the MK&A photos circulating the blogosphere, but I definitely feel the need to obtain a faux fur coat. I love this one, especially, for the vintagey feel.

I already blogged about this one in the previous post. Originally I went nuts over the grey, but lately I've been more interested in navy blue as opposed to my normal black and grey. So the navy blue seems like an obvious choice, and much more elegant than the grey.

Ever since the Fall 2009 show I've been obsessing over this color! And the Black Diamond color is really a charcoal grey shimmer, which is a nice alternative to my traditional black creme polish that usually adorns my fingernails. (I have them painted this color right now.)

I tried this on in the store and it is so soft! Plus, how can you go wrong with brass studs on a vanilla-hued sweater?! I'm seriously missing my AE discount right about now.

Would you do... Ruffles?

A fall trend that I've seen subtly creeping up everywhere is ruffles. Reviewers who have bought the Anthropologie dress below have stated that the ruffles are extremely flattering, and that they hide certain areas that they want hidden. Personally, I love this dress, in grey and black. I'd totally wear it out with my hair pulled back to show off the sheer neckline. But the ruffles? I'm not usually a ruffle person. Plus while this dress may be flattering, I'm not sure if ruffles are flattering overall. I think it depends on the garment shape itself. What do you guys think?

Fever Ray

One half of the iconic Swedish electro-pop duo The Knife, Karin Dreijer Andersson's solo effort Fever Ray is nothing short of spectacular. An acquired taste, sure, but I am urging you to check her out. "Her vocal style is notable for both shrill and deep, distorted tones combined with her distinctive accent and the use of pitch-shifting" (thanks wikipedia!)

Oh and these photos look like they could be in an avant garde fashion spread. Totally eerie and haunting and beautiful.

Okay, so the clothes weren't really my favorite at all, ESPECIALLY when it got to the red, white & blue sequence (can anybody say FUG?) but you've got to love the creativity in the presentation. The sheer black and white gown that was model by the lovely Sasha was by far my favorite, and I love the blazers on Frija and Baptiste.

Not sure what Karl's fascination is with Lily Allen lately, but oh what the hell- I'll buy it. I would have loved to see her perform her "saltily worded country number" as told by style.com.

Now, I don't know if it's PC to say "ethnic" prints, actually I'm pretty sure it's not but I can't think of an all-encompassing word to include Scandinavian, Navajo-an, African, etc. prints. (If you know of one, let me know.) Regardless, I love them right now and if that damn A&F sweater wasn't $160, I'd buy it right now.

Perhaps it's because due to my being consistently broke that I've let my highlights and bangs grow out that I am attracted to this look. I really like center parts right now, that "wash n' go" look that isn't overly styled with a shit-ton of product. In fact, I think what really draws me to this is the clean, fresh makeup (hellooooo gorgeous skin!) juxtaposed with the dirty, "haven't shampooed in a few days" hair. Effortless without looking gross and lazy.

Busy busy!

I am SO sorry guys! I started back to school a couple of weeks ago and I have been super busy, and really this blog has been the last thing on my mind. But I did want to share with you about my awesomely awesome weekend- I worked backstage at the Cleveland Women's Show and had so much fun. Lots of networking and internship possibilities, plus I got to meet Jonathan Kayne from season 3 of Project Runway AND work backstage for his fashion show. I worked on a total of 5 runway shows and had a blast! So anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm still here and haven't forgotten about you! New posts soon, I promise!

Now that fall is arriving (after like what, a 2-week summer?) I must come to terms with the end of my sock-free days and force myself to put away my sandals and flip-flops. Such a sad time of the year for me, I love being barefoot or as close to is as possible.

I've never been much of a white sock fan, reminds me too much of gym class. So I found this fun article on Valet via notcouture. And yes, I'm aware Valet is a men's fashion site, but I enjoy it and find it interesting nonetheless. Swedish designers Viktor Tell and Mikael Soderlindh of the line Happy Socks give us loud-and-obnoxiously-printed sock fans the do's and don'ts of wearing colorful footwear.

Rule #1- Keep argyles for fall and winter and then come spring, break out the polka dots and lighter colors.

Rule #2- There's a fine line between looking daring and looking Punky Brewster. Wear colorful socks with tailored clothes or a great pair of denim. Striped socks and your ripped jeans, not a good combination.

Rule #3- We love colorful socks with loafers and shorts. It's very 1950's collegiate with a modern twist.

Rule #4- Don't go too wild. Neon green socks with a pastel suit are just plain Willy Wonka. But we love a hot pink sock peeking out from a black tie suit. Shocking enough to be appreciated.

The worst jeans in the world.

Okay, so I've started to enjoy Twitter, mainly for the fashion sites and blogs who regularly update with me with exclusive sales and the like. I found a series of interesting posts from Ideeli.

Like, the worst jeans in the world.

I can't decide which ones are more unforgivable.

These, apparently, are big in Japan... the "Bikini Jean." Now, I don't know who in the world would ever want to wear these and be taken seriously. They are beyond trash. Like WAY beyond. They are by a Japanese company called Sanna, which makes another pair of unfortunate jeans they've deemed as "the lowest in the world." See below...

I mean, how could you even fucking sit down in these? Do these people actually think that ass-cleavage is sexy? Because I can assure you that it isn't. Whoever designed these jeans is either on crack or a dude, either one of them with about as much class as a drunken beer-bellied redneck or a stripper. If you've never heard of having to get a bikini wax simply to wear jeans, well... now you have.

Oh but wait, it gets worse. Good lord does it ever get worse.

The "Winking Jeans." By some "artist" names William Jones. They are supposed to wink at you when you walk, but in order for them to work you need to have some "junk in the trunk." However, if you are going to cater to those women that possess such "junk" shouldn't you make a more flattering jean? And who the fuck wants eyes painted on their ass? I sure as hell don't. And apparently, Jones hasn't stopped with the eyes. Oh no, he has even made jeans with ducks painted on and they are supposed to give the illusion of opening and closing their beaks and quacking...(?!)

Elizabeth & James Fall 2009 Campaign

Currently loving the fall campaign for Elizabeth and James. So upon scrolling through I shift-apple-4'd my favorite images and made a collage. I can hear the agitation and dismay in my old design teachers now; "No no no! Activate the whitespace!!!!!!!!!!1" Why do you think I switched from graphic design to fashion?

I hate the way blogger resizes images, but I don't feel like fucking with HTML and messing up my entire layout. So clicking to open a different window to see the whole thing is the way to go.

For some reason I am really enjoying perforated details in shoes and boots right now. Urban Outfitters has flats, boots and oxfords by Deena and Ozzy I believe, and they are really cute. So while perusing net-a-porter I came across these bad boys, and immediately decided that I needed to have them STAT or ASAP or whathaveyou.

Obviously the perforations, which I just mentioned, but also the silver color is amazing. It's just shiny enough without looking cheap or cheesy, and I love the silver capped toe. The model photo shows them pair with an all-grey ensemble and bare legs, but I'd wear these with black tights and a blazer. I think they would be surprisingly versatile and very wearable.

Basically because it's their last tour ever *sobs* and I cannot go because alas, I am broke once again and have next to nothing saved for the school year. The first time I ever saw/heard The Faint was when they opened up for No Doubt on the very first leg of their Rock Steady tour... and I remember thinking WTF? Now, I can't stop listening to them. Danse Macabre is a great dance album.

Ladylike Bondage?

So this weekend I was in D.C. for a day, and then Baltimore for a day. Since it was overall a pretty irritating weekend, the highlight was stopping in the Harbor's HUGE Urban Outfitters store. I got a blazer and a really cute top (more photos later, when I don't look like such a bum.)

While re-visiting my old stomping grounds was not what I expected (and not a pleasant surprise either; Cleveland, I will never speak ill of you again) it did conjure up some memories of high school. So then I get back home, get online, check notcouture- you know, the daily routine- and these pants caught my eye. Now, I don't know if I would have paid much more notice to them if I hadn't just been reminiscing about my high school art class days, but I really think these are hella tight. They are quite subtle and frankly quite wearable for being "bondage" pants.

I've been thinking about this blog lately, and what I want to accomplish with it, and came to the conclusion that I've become rather un-inspired with it. So I'm going to change that.

When I first started blogging, it really didn't have a purpose other than to just be a place for me to ramble on about the things that I love: fashion, music, art, etc. I loved finding new things and sharing them with you all. Perhaps having two jobs plus taking summer classes just wore me out, but I really didn't want to have to think about blogging on top of that these past few months.

So- insert changes here. I want to do more outfit posts. I didn't want this blog to be about that at first, but I love seeing other blogs that feature primarily "what I wore" posts, and I get so inspired by them. Plus it's fun sharing new pieces of clothing that you buy, or an outfit concoction that you are particularly proud of.

But now it's up to you. I want to know what you want in this blog- what should stay, what should go, what should be added. Because it isn't all about me, YOU guys are the ones that read it!

BTW love my new pants from OAK? And shoes? They are hard to see but they are these lovely heeled strappy gladiators from Target of all places. Extremely comfortable =)

I've noticed that a lot of bloggers have set up shops in which to sell old clothing and accessories, so instead of messing with Ebay I decided to do the same thing. I have a lot of old-ish, vintage, and even brand new clothing that I have no use for anymore. But maybe some of you will!

The Uniform Project

I'm still alive. It's just been a crazy/busy week!

We all have at least one item that is so versatile, we can make a different outfit and even make it look like a totally different garment for almost every day of the week. But what about making a shirt (or dress, or pants) work for 365 days?

That is the idea behind The Uniform Project- Sheena has pledged to wear one dress (well, 7 identical dresses really. One for each day of the week) for one year as an exercise in sustainability. Sounds crazy, but remarkable. She has taken a simple but gorgeous dress designed by her friend Eliza Starbuck and accessorized in such a way that you would never be able to tell it's just the same dress being worn over and over again.

The Uniform Project is also a fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation- at the end of the year all contributions will go towards new uniforms and other educational expenses for under-privileged children in India.

Most of the accessorizing comes by way of thrifted and vintage finds, and I'm quite psyched that someone like Sheena is this dedicated to changing not only the way we think about sustainability, but also contributing to a worthy cause. Only halfway through her 3rd month, here's hoping she doesn't get too bored =)

I just bought (yes bought, not downloaded) the new Placebo cd, Battle for the Sun. Not sure how I feel about it yet; don't get me wrong it's a good, solid record, just not your typical Placebo. It's no where near what Meds was, but it will grow on me in time. I love this band, ever since hearing "Every You Every Me" on the opening sequence of Cruel Intentions. And they are hot, even if they are, really, women. But you cannot sit there and tell me Brian Molko isn't one sexy beast.

So anyway, back to fashion. I was thinking the other day I'm in dire need of some new tanktops. And these Urban Outfitters beauties are per-fec-tion; grey with just the right amount of color to not initiate my brighthuephobia.

No Doubt are back & it's about time

So please excuse the random photo post. I saw No Doubt last night and I'm feeling quite nostalgic, probably because I've been listening to them almost as long as I've listened to NIN (which is a long time). I remember being in elementary school wanting to be Gwen Stefani, in middle and high school wanting to be Gwen Stefani... then she released her solo records and lost a bit of her appeal to me. So needless to say I'm ecstatic that No Doubt are back on the road and soon to be in the studio again, after almost a decade of no new music.

The show last night way awesome, even if I looked like a damn fool being the only sober person on the lawn who was acting so un-sober. Eventually I danced and skanked and thrashed around enough that the people around me spread out and gave me some space to do my thing. I hate going to shows where the people just stand around and barely bob their heads.

After suffering through Paramore and their hoard of 12-year-old Twilight obsessed minions, my band finally came on and blew me away once again. They played a lot of "Tragic Kingdom" and "Return of Saturn" which was nice, and even played a bit of the song "Squeal" causing myself and other old-schoolers to jump around like nut-cases, (even though they didn't actually play the whole song it was just during an intermission of sorts.)

What's so great about Gwen is that she really is a style icon. I've always envied her style and her guts to wear it, with the exception of her brief stint with her Harajuku girls whilst she was going solo. She is one of the only people that can make multiple fashion faux-pas look so great. Who else can pull off a faux-hawk, crazy Rastafarian prints, ripped shirts and bra straps without all the trash and cheese? Better yet, who else can wear their own band tees and still get away with it?

JUST when we all thought it was over: the "it" bag that everyone and their mothers' were breaking bank over. Hermès has done it again, this time with their "Shadow" Birkin bag, and THIS time reaching a lovely 5 figures instead of 4. This beauty retails at about $11,000 and I really don't know if I should congratulate or shake Jean Paul Gaultier and scream "What the fuck were you thinking?!"

"My idea was to work around the trompe l'oeil concept with the Birkin," Gaultier, the Hermès designer explained to Harper's Bazaar. "The flap, straps, and clochette seem to have been chiseled in the raw material, the result of unbelievable craftsmanship."

Okay fine, I guess a congrats is in order. Because this really is an unbelievable bag, even if it comes with an unbelievable price.

New Marc Jacobs line... thoughts?

The ever-fabulous Marc Jacobs has launched another line called Jacobs by Marc Jacobs, and it consists of cheap accessories, bags, swimsuits, etc. And I don't know about you but I'm not sure I'd spring for a designer bathing cap. But maybe that's just me? I also don't know about the name, "Jacobs by Marc Jacobs" doesn't have nearly as nice of a ring to it as "Marc by Marc Jacobs" does. Then again it is cheap Marc Jacobs, I really shouldn't be complaining.

The floral tote is cute, and so are the necklaces, but the rest is kinda.... eh. Not sure what to think yet, so YOUR thoughts would be nice!

P.S. The Nine Inch Nails show was awesome! I tried desperately to get backstage passes, first by trying to win them and then Trent & co. launched into a charity campaign to help one of their friends get a heart transplant. I was waiting to get paid one Friday, and the Wednesday before Trent twitters that they cannot accommodate anymore people backstage! I didn't know whether to cry or to scream =/ Regardless, it was an awesome show, and if/when they ever come back again hopefully I won't be broke when they start offering backstage passes!

Christian Louboutin's FW '09/10 campaign couldn't be more ingenious. Shot by photographer Peter Lippman, they combine Louboutin's collection with fruit, flowers and fine tablewares, reminiscent of the classic still-life paintings of the 18th century. What could possibly go wrong when you mix art with shoes? Nothing! These are stunning.

So, I've been watching bits and pieces of The Fashion Show, Bravto TV's replacement for Project Runway, but there was a mini-marathon on this morning so I watched the whole thing while my boyfriend slept. My first impression prior to watching the show was that it was going to be a blatant rip-off of one of my favorite reality shows ever. I guess I'm correct in some ways, I mean it basically consists of the same format of PR and all the other Bravo shows. but there are some noticeable differences as well.

The first few episodes the group was divided into small teams of 4 or 5 designers, and since it's called The Fashion Show, I found this appropriate- each team had a cohesive "collection" of sorts, which I found pretty neat. And then each winning piece is sold in limited quantities on Bravotv.com which is great for an up-and-coming designer.

HOWEVER, what has disappointed me the most are the designers themselves. To me, they just don't compare to the caliber of designers that were on Runway. I mean, some of the designers on here have straight up confessed that they have hardly ever sewn garments themselves, that they have just had other people sew for them. Do you really think Heidi or Tim Gunn would find this acceptable? Hell no. Technicalities aside, I'm just really not impressed with a lot of the concepts behind the designs. Everything just seems sub-par to me. Take a gander at the pieces that have won so far:

But I really think they only thing that I would buy so far are the vegan wedge boots that Johnny designed. And if I had $299.00 I probably would, I think they are hella cute. But this is also one of the, ahem, designers that confessed that they just do not sew. I can understand being the concept and brains behind design, but almost every contestant on Runway had excellent craftsmanship as well as amazing creativity, which is what you need to succeed in this industry.

(HellOOOOOOO Christian!)

Plus, as much as I like Isaac Mizrahi, he and an ex-Destiny's Child just do NOT cut it after Heidi and Tim. I'm very much looking forward to whenever Runway decides to show up on Lifetime.

Some paintings by Jeremy Geddes. I am completely amazed by this man's work, all of these are paintings (yes, paintings!) NOT photographs. You need to click on them to get the whole effect, otherwise you won't be able to appreciate the detail and time that must have went into these pieces.

Most (if not all) of his work has a downright creepy vibe to them, which I love. I can't stop scrolling through his site. I love the color palette he has chosen, there is a definite starkness to the blacks and greys, but a sort of brightness too. It's rather jarring, which is probably the effect he is going for. I like how the compositions aren't too complicated, so you get the entire effect of the figures. It's very solitary and kinda scary.

For some reason I can't stop thinking about the Janitor from Scrubs when I see this. It's just as disturbing a piece as the other ones but I almost find something comical about it. Then again, I don't know how many people have told me what a sick sense of humor I have =/

I love the sinister overtone of this one- the grinning man in the back, how you can only make out his face in the shadows. Such a simple composition, yet effective.

I wanted to post some of his other work, but they are really wide and I'd rather not distort or crop the image. So I would just check out his website and scroll through the amazingness!

Wow, has it seriously been over a week since I posted something? I am SOOO sorry guys! I have just been swamped with work and now summer classes (accounting = barf.) Plus I decided to re-activate my World of Warcraft account against my better judgement... I know, such a nerd.

I'm just going to make it short and sweet tonight. I am in love with this UO jacket right now, it's the perfect length for those odd-weather days, where it can't decide if it wants to be slightly chilly or warm out. The best part? It's actually IN my price range! Hooray for finding something cute that I can actually afford! Although I think if I were to wear this, I'd perhaps wear some CLOTHES with it.
