Happy Socks and Happy September
Now that fall is arriving (after like what, a 2-week summer?) I must come to terms with the end of my sock-free days and force myself to put away my sandals and flip-flops. Such a sad time of the year for me, I love being barefoot or as close to is as possible.
I've never been much of a white sock fan, reminds me too much of gym class. So I found this fun article on Valet via notcouture. And yes, I'm aware Valet is a men's fashion site, but I enjoy it and find it interesting nonetheless. Swedish designers Viktor Tell and Mikael Soderlindh of the line Happy Socks give us loud-and-obnoxiously-printed sock fans the do's and don'ts of wearing colorful footwear.

Rule #1- Keep argyles for fall and winter and then come spring, break out the polka dots and lighter colors.
Rule #2- There's a fine line between looking daring and looking Punky Brewster. Wear colorful socks with tailored clothes or a great pair of denim. Striped socks and your ripped jeans, not a good combination.
Rule #3- We love colorful socks with loafers and shorts. It's very 1950's collegiate with a modern twist.
Rule #4- Don't go too wild. Neon green socks with a pastel suit are just plain Willy Wonka. But we love a hot pink sock peeking out from a black tie suit. Shocking enough to be appreciated.
To read the full article click here. But be aware of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. I've never had to proofread an article before I re-published it here!
Or you can just visit the Happy Socks website. My favorites are the "Joker" and the "Optic" socks =)
What do you guys think of flashy socks?

Fall 2009 Accessory Report- Part Four
Shapes and... gorillas? (This post is dedicated to Coco, she will know why.)
Okay so these final two trends I noticed while perusing style.com are uniquely shaped bags and gorilla adorned boots. One of these I like, one... not so much, but it still needed to be posted. I love the bags, especially the VBH and the Viktor & Rolf. As for the gorilla trend... well, they're listed as "goat" and "exotic feathers" but we know the truth.

Givency textured "Pandora" bag
Jil Sander leather tote bag
Smythson "Nancy" black quilted leather bag
VBH "Dangler" bag in hickory nubuck

Fall 2009 Accessory Report- Part Three
Studs, studs and more STUDS!
One of my favorite embellishments, but only if done correctly. Chic not trashy, ya know? Like all of these.
I'm still surprised that most of the labels I just brush over, like Coach for instance, have really impressed me this season. I don't know if it's just gotten edgier, but whatever the change is, I like it a lot. It may even be a big enough change that I could bring myself to buy a Coach bag *gasp* which I never though I'd do in a million years =)
Now, if only money wasn't still an issue... or the fact that I still need to buy this bag!

Fall 2009 Accessory Report- Part Two
Part Two: Reds.
The color of choice this upcoming season is definitely red; from tomato to fire-engine to crimson. I've never really accessorized with this hue, but after looking at these I'm going to start!
BTW, making these posts has reminded me of how unfortunate some of the girls in my fashion merchandising major are; We had to do designer presentations and one girl pronounced it "Lager-field." And don't even talk to me about how many different ways "Louboutin" is pronounced around that school...

Fall 2009 Accessory Report- Part One
I love when I open my email and notice a lovely update from style.com in my inbox. That, and the WWD morning reports are great to wake up to. So I was happy yesterday when I received the Fall 2009 Accessory Report, only to click and be directed to a huge list of designers. After sorting through over 500 photos of shoes, bags, and jewelry, I saved about a quarter of them to my desktop with the intention of posting my favorites. Needless to say I have to break them up into separate posts but who cares, right? More posts for you!
Part one: Booties! It took me a while to get into this style, mainly because when I heard "booties" I initially thought of the akward, square-toed ankle boots my mom used to wear in the fall and winter. Now I can't get enough of them!
To be honest I was quite surprised with some of these. Designers that I typically ADORE (ahem, Proenza Schouler) really didn't have anything that were that amazing to me, except this one pair of boots. On the other hand, designers that I typically don't care for, like Donna Karen & Coach, had some of the best (umm HELLO purple booties, I am drooling all over my keyboard). It was interesting.

Brian Atwood suede bootie
Balenciaga suede cage bootie with suede sash
Coach "Alexandria" fold-over heel
Donna Karen suede oxford bootie
Salvatore Ferragamo leather laser-cut bootie

Proenza Schouler suede bootie
Next post is...?
